The ERC funding has been pivotal to my successful establishment of a research group in Italy after several years abroad. It’s bottom-up nature and portability allowed me to be truly independent and created a virtuous circle around my research, working as a magnet for the attraction of talented young collaborators and further opportunities of funding/research
